Ozborn Communications operates
both conventional and trunked UHF repeater systems to
provide the extended range that our customers need to
reach both metro and rural service areas. Both levels of
repeater service currently offered make full use of our
"tall tower" advantage utilizing a centrally located
high antenna. This configuration provides for cost
effective wide area communications without the high
recurring costs of some heavily land networked systems.
analog shared repeater systems offer the tried and true,
low cost, party line approach to repeater service which
remains an economical solution for many users. The
shared system provides for quiet standby operation,
allowing users to only hear conversations which apply to
their talkgroup. When the user needs to make a
transmission, as he removes the microphone to make a
call, the receiver is opened giving him the opportunity
to monitor for an available channel. If the channel is
clear he makes his call. If not, he must wait for the
channel to become clear before making the call.
Our analog UHF LTR trunked repeater service offers the
same extended range with the enhancement of rapid
channel access and privacy that are often imperative in
professional communications. Through trunking
technology, a network of repeaters is controlled by
software in both the subscriber unit and the network.
Other users on the network cannot hear your conversation
nor can you hear theirs. When you need to make a
transmission, you simply pick up your microphone and
activate the push to talk button. Within milliseconds
the subscriber unit requests and the system assigns a
clear channel for the conversation.
The subscriber unit is
automatically switched to the assigned channel and the
conversation takes place just as with any two-way radio.
Multiple repeaters are available in the network so that
multiple conversations can be ongoing simultaneously.
Similar to the switching system used by regular landline
telephone service, trunked radio service is not only
more spectrally efficient, it provides a much greater
chance of channel availability at the point in time the
user needs it. As more users are added and channel
loading increases, more repeaters can be added to
accommodate the extra loading. And, through digital
coding, conversation privacy between users of the
network is maintained. Finally, if you run an operation
which needs more than one communication channel, say you
need an alternate channel for your supervisors to
converse among themselves in privacy without field
workers being able to hear, trunked technology allows us
to provide literally hundreds of talkgroups so that we
can provide multi-channel service economically.
In the near future, we will add digital repeater service
to our "tall tower" concept. In existing analog systems,
conversations carried on while a unit is operating in
the extreme fringes of the coverage area may at times
have static along with the voice. This can sometimes
make the conversation hard to understand. In a digital
system, the voice is noise free all the way to the point
at which the signal disappears completely. In other
words, if you hear the voice, you will hear it clearly.
